Abstract

When I was asked to record a podcast and discuss similarities and differences between the Czech and Canadian
health care systems and the provision of pediatric palliative care, I felt like I had not yet had enough opportunity to gain sufficient insight into the Czech culture
and medical system to make such a comparison. In June
2019 I had accepted an invitation to become a mentor to
the pediatric palliative care team of University Hospital
Motol in Prague as part of a 2-year EU grant. And while
the pandemic prohibited me from the immersive in-person experience that was planned, the virtual connection
I’ve maintained with the Czech palliative care community has made apparent some of the differences and similarities I had been hearing about from members of the
Motol pediatric palliative care team.
