Abstract

Hope is an important factor in a person‘s life, even more so in illness and in the face of dying. The chaplain, as a member of the palliative care team and an expert on spiritual topics, should be the one who is aware of the risks of manipulation and resists the instrumentalization of hope. Keeping our human vulnerability, sense of reality, trust and openness can paradoxically open up
space for hope that is not available at our disposal.
